Welcome to The Lawson Practice
The Lawson Practice held a Group Consultation on Hypertension on the 27th November. If you're curious and want to know what other patients thought of their first session, have a look at the video.
Advice for patients travelling abroad
Patients who are staying outside the UK for more than 3 months will be removed from the practice list, but will be able to register on their return, so long as they are still living in the practice catchment area.
Repeat prescriptions can be provided for a maximum of 3 months with the exception of Levothyroxine and oral contraceptives for which up to 12 months can be prescribed, so long as you have had a recent medication review.
If you should require medical advice or treatment while travelling then you will need to seek it in the country you are in.
Please call and speak to someone at reception, it only takes 5 minutes to get immunised!
Appointment System Reviewed / Notice to patients
We know it has been hard for some of you to adjust to the new appointment system. The partners have been listening to some of your concerns for particularly vulnerable people who may have communication difficulties or who cannot use computers etc.
We have therefore adjusted the appointment system to ensure that patients with learning difficulties, serious mental illnesses and those with serious medical conditions/frailty or housebound are highlighted so that reception staff can ensure that they get to speak to their doctor. We hope you will notice a difference and we hope that these changes improve the safeness of the service.
Stopping The Prescribing of Over The Counter Medicines - May 2019
From 1st June 2019 a range of medicines that are available to buy over the counter (OTC) from chemists and supermarkets will no longer be routinely prescribed by the Lawson Practice.
Theses are medicines associated with a number of minor, short term health conditions which either get better by themselves or can be easily self-treated. Click here for more information.
DUTY DOCTOR SERVICE – FOR WHEN YOU HAVE AN URGENT MEDICAL PROBLEM
This service offers you quick access to your GP practice, where they know you and have your full medical record. We recommend this service instead of going to A&E at the hospital.
- Phone the surgery and explain to reception that you have an urgent problem
- Reception can then put you on the Duty Doctor list
- The Duty Doctor will ring you back within 2 hours
- The Duty Doctor will decide with you what you need, which could be:
- Advice over the phone
- An appointment at the surgery
- A home visit if you are really not well
- A referral to another service
New Prescription Requesting Information
From Monday 7th January 2019 The Lawson Practice would like patients to request their repeat medication directly from the practice and not the pharmacy.
You can request repeat medication via:
- Online access (please ask at reception),
- Drop off your prescription request slip at reception, or
- Post your repeat prescription slip to the practice.
We have a pharmacy technician at the practice that can assist with prescription queries if you have any concerns.
