CLINICS AND SERVICES
It is very important for all women over 25 years of age who are, or have been sexually active, to have cervical smears. This is a test to detect changes in the cervix, which may, in years to come, lead to cancer. These changes can easily be treated and so prevent cancer from developing. Please talk to the doctor or nurse if you have any queries or worries about the test.
If you require a pregnancy test, please bring a specimen of the first urine you pass in the morning to the surgery as soon as you have missed a period. Please bring along the specimen anytime during surgery hours.
CHILD HEALTH CLINIC
The health visitors attached to the practice run the child health clinic. It is a drop-in clinic to see the health visitor or practice nurse for immunisations. You will be sent an appointment when your child is due a 6 week or 12 month check by the doctor for immunisation. Parents can bring their under 5s to be weighed, have immunisations or for general advice on child care.
This is a well baby clinic and children who are unwell should see the doctor at an appointment rather than come to this clinic. They will not be able to see a doctor for their illness at this clinic.
The Child Health Clinic is held every Tuesday between 2pm and 4pm.
We offer full antenatal care to all our pregnant patients. Women attending the clinic will be seen by a midwife or one of the doctors from the Practice. The Antenatal Clinic is by appointment only and is held every Thursday, 9:00am to12:30pm.
We offer an annual Asthma Review with one of our Practice Nurses. Patients will be invited to attend by letter.
This is a special clinic for our patients suffering from diabetes. Patients will be seen by the practice nurse, nurse practitioner, health care assistant, doctor and dietician as necessary. The diabetic clinic is by appointment only and you will be invited to attend as necessary. Two weeks prior to the clinic you will be asked to come into the surgery for blood tests.
CORONARY HEART DISEASE (CHD) CLINIC
This is a special clinic for our patients suffering from CHD. Patients will be seen by the practice nurse or nurse practitioner. There is an annual review for any patients with a history of heart attack and/or angina. The CHD clinic is by appointment only and you will be invited to attend as necessary. Two weeks prior to the clinic you will be asked to come into the surgery for blood tests.
We offer a full health check to all new patients registering with the practice and those who wish to have them. Our Health Care Assistant takes a medical history and checks your height, weight, blood pressure and urine. A blood test may be offered if necessary. Patients already registered may be offered a Health Check if they have not been seen in the last 5 years.
This is a clinic for our patients who suffer with high blood pressure. It is by appointment only and is held weekly with a Practice Nurse.
Warts are caused by a viral infection on the skin. They are harmless and will clear without treatment, usually in 6-12 months. You can buy treatments from the chemist to speed up this process. We are able to treat warts or verrucas at the surgery. Please make an appointment in the cryotherapy clinic.
NHS HEALTH CHECK
The government has recommended that all adults aged between 40 and 74 have a health check. This will enable us to review your risk of developing heart disease over the next 10 years. We will check your blood pressure and may need to take fasting cholesterol and sugar levels. For those at high risk we may recommend medication to treat your cholesterol. We are sending out letters to invite people to attend.
SEXUAL HEALTH SCREENING
Self testing is available for all 16-24 year olds please ask reception or clinician for a pack. Anyone can book an appointment to see a doctor or a nurse for a full sexual health screen.
Our nurse practitioner and a female GP both run womens health clinics for contraception, including implants and coils, smears, emergency contraception, contraception advice and sexual health screening please ask reception for details.
We are also able to offer access to the following services:
Some of these services are by self-referral, others you may need to speak to one of your team members about. Please ask at reception.
If you require any vaccinations relating to foreign travel you need to make an appointment with the practice nurse to discuss your travel arrangements. This will include which countries and areas within countries that you are visiting to determine what vaccinations are required. There will be a charge for some vaccinations as they are not covered by NHS presciption charges, details will be given to you of any charges once you have completed the travel questionnaire below and payment needs to be made in full before you are seen.
Information about countries and vaccinations required can be found on the links below:
It is important to make the initial appointment as early as possible - at least 6 weeks before you travel - as a second appointment will be required with the practice nurse to actually receive the vaccinations. These vaccines have to be ordered as they are not a stock vaccine. Your second appointment needs to be at least 2 weeks before you travel to allow the vaccines to work.
